When are you letting the Costa Blanca's solar pioneers and market leader install your solar PV system ?
FEMPA solar power systems

How do grid-connected solar panel systems work?

Solar panels generate electricity during the day, which is immediately used by all systems and devices inside the house. When your house needs more electricity than the solar panels are generating, additional electricity is taken from the grid. When the solar panels are generating more electricity than your house needs, the surplus electricity is injected into the grid.
Much lower electricity bills

The average system based on your electricity consumption, can lower your electricity bills with approx. 80%. With battery-storage, your bills can be reduced with up to 100%

Reimbursements for surplus electricity

Your electricity supplier will reimburse your surplus electricity. This will be deducted from the costs for electricity taken from the grid.

Store surplus electricity

Optionally, surplus electricity can be stored inside batteries for electricity used at night and peaks of consumption during the day.

Premium materials

We only use premium materials by the global market leaders that have proven themselves in Spain over the years in terms of quality and support.

Including paperwork

Our systems are registered via the Generalitat Valenciana, registered via your municipality (building permit) and the grid-injection is legalised via the grid-operator.

Long warranties

We only offer materials with long warranties up to 25 years. We do not install materials with less than 10 years of warranty.

Short payback period

More than 90% of our clients have a payback period of less than 5,5 years.

Experienced installers

All our installers and electricians have at least 250 systems of experience.

FEMPA certified

All our installers and electricians are FEMPA certified.

Since 1994

We have more than 30 years of experience with solar panel systems in Spain and are by far the most experienced installer in our region.

Languages

In our office we speak English, Dutch, German, Spanish and French. Our installers speak English and Spanish.

Possible everywhere

We install on any type of roof, on any type of surface area and on vertical walls. From modern newly built villa's to finca's in the campo with roofs that are hundreds of years old. In many cases, we leave roofs in a better condition as they were before.

EV-chargers

Charge your electric vehicle via EV-chargers, directly connected to the inverter or standalone.

Battery-storage

As we work with hybrid inverters, it is always possible to add battery-storage. This can be done immediately or at a later point in time.

What main components does a solar panel system consist of?

Solar panels

Solar (photovoltaic) panels capture sunlight to create electricity. The solar panels we use in our systems are picked with 30 years of experience on the Costa Blanca. We only work with monocrystalline tier 1 A-brands such as Hyundai and Sunpower, with an efficiency of 21% or higher and a warranty of at least 25 years.

An inverter or micro-inverters

An inverter inverts DC electricity produced by the solar panels into AC electricity, the type of electricity we use in our homes. Depending on the situation, we will advise a string-inverter, where one main inverter is placed inside the house, or micro-inverters, where each panel will have its own individual inverter on the back of the solar panel. Wether we use a string-inverter or micro-inverters depends on multiple factors, such as shade and having multiple different roof inclinations and/or orientations. We only install premium hybrid inverters by global market leaders such as Huawei, SolarEdge and Enphase.

Optimisers (when necessary)

When a string-inverter is used, panels that can potentially have shade on them should be outfitted with an optimiser, so that they won’t negatively influence the panels in full sunlight. They also mitigate any type of mismatches when panels are placed with different orientations and/or inclinations.

Solar panel mounting materials

We install on any type of roof, any type of surface area and on vertical wals. All mounting systems we use are always 100% leakage and storm proof.

Battery-storage (optional)

Wether battery-storage is a good investment for you, depends on multiple factors. We often advise our clients to add battery storage to the system at a later point in time, when we have more information about production, consumption and surplus electricity via the app of the system, as battery-storage is relatively expensive in comparison to the main solar panel system. Battery storage can be interesting when you charge the battery every day, and discharge the battery every night. When you don’t live in Spain all year, we do not advise battery-storage.

Surplus electricity can be stored inside one or more lithium-ion batteries, so that this electricity can be used at night and during times the house uses more electricity than the panels are generating. We often advise our clients to add battery storage to the system at a later point in time, when we have a lot of information about your consumption/production/surplus electricity via the data (app) of the system, which we can use to better advise you how much capacity is needed. As we work with hybrid inverters, battery storage can always be connected to the system. This can be done immediately during installation of the main system, or at a later point in time.

Reimbursements for surplus electricity

Your electricity supplier can see how much electricity you use and how much surplus electricity you inject into the grid via a digital meter (often beside the main entrance to your plot). Per injected kWh you receive a reimbursement of between 10 and 20 cents + IVA (usually around 15 cents + IVA). The reimbursements you receive for surplus electricity is deducted of the money you have to pay your electricity supplier, for electricity used at night for example. The surplus electricity is deducted per month. You continue to pay for the fixed costs (taxes, grid maintenance etc.).

The supplier does only reimburse the electricity you have used yourself. If you use 100 kWh and inject 50 kWh, you receive a reimbursement for 50 kWh. If you use 50 kWh and inject 100 kWh, the electricity supplier will reimburse 50 kWh. The other 50 kWh is lost.

If you inject a lot of electricity or when you don’t live in Spain all year, there are solutions for this  by having an electricity supplier that offers a ‘’virtual battery’’. You will find more information about this on this page.

Registration via the Generalitat Valenciana (GVA)

Our systems are registered via the Generalitat Valenciana. This administrative work is obligated and the costs for this are included in our prices.

Building permits via the municipality (obra menor)

Our system come with the necessary building permits. The administrative work for this and the costs for the permits are included in our prices.

Legalisation via the grid operator (I-DE)

The grid injection is legalised via the grid-operator so that your electricity supplier can reimburse your surplus electricity. This administrative work is obligated and the costs for this are included in our prices.

IBI discount

In some municipalities you can get a discount on the IBI (real estate tax). How much and for how long this discount is differs per municipality and often changes. We provide you with all the paperwork you need to apply for the discount. The discount can only be applied for by yourself at your local SUMA office.

In short: Our systems always include all the necessary paperwork and permits. You don’t have to do anything yourself.

*We do not register, legalise and/or apply for building permits for systems not installed by us.

New, optional and recommended: Solar Router Service

We want our clients to have the lowest possible electricity bills, which is why we can advise the solar router service, in stead of your current electricity supplier.
Lowest rates

Via an algorithm, the solar router constantly checks at what electricity supplier it can buy electricity at the cheapest rates, and buys is there.

Highest reimbursements

Via an algorithm, the solar router constantly checks what electricity supplier pays the most for surplus electricity, and sells it to them.

Virtual battery

If you have more surplus electricity than consumption, the electricity that is not reimbursed by your electricity supplier, can be stored in a ''virtual battery''. This electricity can then be used at times that you have more consumption than surplus electricity.

4/5G Connection

The inverter can be connected to the 4/5G router, so the inverter will not be connected to your own Wi-Fi anymore, making communication problems caused by network problems impossible.

This service is very transparent and you are not tied to anything (can be canceled monthly), the invoices are very clear without unnecessary details and because you always know that you have the lowest rates, comparing each year is no longer necessary.

To give you and idea about the rates: Where the average p1 (daytime) rate per kWh in October was 28 cents at Iberdrola and 34 cents at Fenie Energia, it was 19 cents via the solar router. Per injected kWh iberdrola paid 13 cents, Fenie Energia paid 5 cents and the solar router paid 15 cents.

The solar router service includes an industrial 4/5G router, sim card for data connection without monthly costs, installation of the router, cancelling your precious supplier and possible cancelation fees are paid for you. To switch, you only pay a one-time fee. We only offer this service to our clients and can’t be sold separately. We as solar power systems are not financially compensated but only advise this as an extra service, to get you the lowest possible electricity bills.

Frequently Asked Questions

About grid-connected solar panel systems in Spain.

System

What does an inverter do?

Solar panels generate DC electricity. An inverter inverters this into AC electricity, the type of electricity we use in our houses.

Do you use string-inverters or micro-inverters?

Depending on the situation, we use string-inverters or micro-inverters. With a string-inverter, the solar panels will be connected to one central inverter. With micro-inverters, every solar panel will have it’s own micro-inverter on the back. When you have one, two or possibly three different roofs with different orientations/inclinations, we advise a string-inverter, possibly with optimisers. When you have more than 3 different roofs with different orientations/inclinations or a roof with a lot of shade, we advise micro-inverters.

What solar panels do you use?

The solar panels we use for our installations are chosen with almost 30 years of experience in Spain. We only want to install the best. We use mono-crystalline HC PERC or shingled PV modules with an efficiency of 21% or higher, 25 years of linear power warranty, 25 years of full product warranty and only by premium tier 1 brands like Hyundai and Sunpower.

What about optimisers?

In a string-inverter system, optimisers can be attached to the back of the solar panels to constantly monitor the panel voltage/current and work to mitigate any mistmatch effects so that each solar panel can operate at its maximum power level. Optimisers are installed on panels that can potentially have shade on them, or on all panels if there are more than 2 different orientations/inclinations. If there is no risk of shade and there are no more than two orientations/inclinations, optimisers are not always necessary and would only make the system unnecessarily more expensive.

What about battery-storage?

Surplus electricity can be stored inside batteries. Your home will use the stored electricity at night and at times when the house needs more electricity than the panels are generating. We often advise to install battery storage after living with the solar panels for a while, when we have more information about your consumption through the data of the inverter. This way we can better advise you wether battery-storage is a good investment for you and if so, how much capacity is needed.

What about EV-chargers?

We install separate EV-chargers by Wallbox and inverters with integrated EV-chargers by SolarEdge. Inverters with integrated EV-charger offer your the ability to charge your vehicle up to 2,5 times faster than with a standard charger, though a boost mode that uses electricity from the grid and from the solar panels simultaneously. A disadvantage of integrated EV-chargers is that the inverter has to be installed near to where you park your car, which is not always the most aesthetically pleasing option.

What happens during a power cut?

During a power cut the system stops working, unless a backup box or UPS solution in combination with battery-storage is used.

Can the panels get too hot in summer?

The panels can get hot in summer but not too hot. The losses in summer due to heat are calculated in the production report you receive with the quotation.

Installation

Where do you install?

In order to be able to continue to guarantee the good service that people have come to expect from us for 30 years and to ensure that our waiting lists do not become too long, we have had to reduce our working area. We install in Calpe, Altea, Benissa, Moraira, Teulada, Benitatchell, Javea and the smaller villages in between these towns/villages. For people that have been clients from us for a long time, we make exceptions.

How are the panels installed on roofs with roof tiles?

When the solar panels are installed on roof tiles, we use a storm and leakage proof mounting system with materials by Würth. We drill a hole trough the upper roof tile and the bardo below the roof tile (red stone below the roof tiles) and place a threaded end inside. This is sealed around with a special water-proof adhesive. On the threaded end a profile is mounted and the solar panels are mounted onto the profile.

What happens if roof tiles break during installation?

Any roof tiles that break during installation will be replaced by us.

How are the panels installed on flat surfaces?

On flat roofs we mostly work with aluminium structures with wind-skirts and weights. On the ground we mostly work with prefab concrete foundations.

Can panels be installed on vertical walls?

Yes, using aluminium structures we also install panels on vertical walls.

Can I expand the system with more panels later?

Yes, in most cases you can. If you would like to expand with more than 2/3 solar panels in the future, we advise stronger inverter for relatively low additional costs.

Service

Does the system need maintenance?

No, these systems do not need maintenance.

Do the panels need to be cleaned?

Cleaning the panels will increase the production. We advise to clean the panels with water after sand-rains, in the early morning or late afternoon. If you have not been in Spain for months and the panels are very dirty, we advise to clean them with a soft brush or to have them cleaned. Cleaning the panels costs 5 euros per panel for easy to reach panels and 8 euros for hard to reach panels.

Are there subsidies?

We are immediately open and honest about subsidies in Spain and we do not make it sound better than it is. Unlike many of our colleagues, we do not use texts such as “including subsidy application” in our quotations, which may give you the idea that you will get money back. In our opinion, honesty lasts the longest and because of this we have been around for 30 years. Of the tens of thousands of people who have applied for the next generation grant, including many of our customers, including Spanish gestors who deal with this type of business on a daily basis, none have received any money. Some have been waiting for more than 2 years. There are various agencies that can apply for subsidies against payment and they also indicate that there is no more money available for this subsidy. The honest agencies also no longer accept new applications. When someone tells you that they have received money or when a company tells you that you are going to get money through a grant, this is not true. They do or may have made an application, but they certainly have not received a refund and will not receive one. If, despite the above information, you still want to apply, we can provide you with contact details of an agency that is still applying for grants, but they will tell you the same as we do. You pay approximately 300 euros including IVA for the application, but without any guarantees that you will receive anything. We hereby clearly indicate that we no longer do anything with this subsidy ourselves.

Do you register/legalise systems of third parties?

No, we do not.

Do you sell installation of systems only?

No, we only sell and install complete packages including all materials and installation and we sell materials separately, without installation.

Do you lease or finance systems?

No, we do not.
